Contumacious (stubbornly rebellious) exhibits Rebellion. Insubordinate (unwilling to obey) exhibits Disobedience or refusal to follow orders.
Sordid (morally repugnant) is opposite to Nobility (virtue, high character). Debased (reduced in rank or value) is opposite to Purity (moral excellence).
Ephemeral (short-lived) relates to Duration inversely. Evanescent (tending to vanish/fade away) inversely relates to Visibility or the ability to be seen.
Perspicuous language avoids vagueness; pellucid explanations avoid opacity/murkiness. Both words mean clear and represent absence of obscurity.
Sanguine disposition reflects optimism; morose disposition reflects pessimism. These represent opposite emotional and philosophical outlooks on life.
Recalcitrant resists authority; acquiescent shows compliance with authority. These are opposite responses to authoritative demands.
Bellicose disposition seeks conflict; pacifistic philosophy seeks peace. These represent opposite goals and attitudes toward violence.
Ubiquitous means present everywhere; evanescent means fleeting/vanishing. While ubiquitous addresses location, evanescent addresses temporal nature - both represent extremes.
Insouciance demonstrates indifference through carelessness; nonchalance demonstrates indifference through cool detachment. Both express lack of concern.
Venerate shows extreme respect; vilify shows extreme contempt. These represent polar opposite emotional attitudes toward a subject.
